Job Overview :

Working closely with the Global Head of People & Culture, and leading the India People team, the People Ops Manager oversees the full employment lifecycle for employees based in India. 

Business partnering the India-based management team and supporting colleagues to drive an inclusive and positive organisational culture that makes Contis a great place to work.  Build people management capability so that matters are dealt with proactively, people are treated well and the business receives quality people solutions.

With sound local employment law knowledge and experience in its application, ensure full compliance and interpretation of the rules so that our India region runs smoothly from a People perspective. 

Contribute to the global People strategy with ideas and knowledge, and actively lead on initiatives that generate an outstanding employee experience that makes Contis a great place to work.

Responsibilities & Duties : 


  • Line manage the local HR team (currently a People Partner and a Talent Partner) and lead them to deliver their best work.  Create an environment where they can learn, develop, be curious, challenge the status quo and progress their careers at Contis.   Share your expertise and coach them to continuously develop while supporting them every step of the way. 
  • As the People lead for India, support the local Chief Technology Officer in leading his team and driving performance across the region effectively, while leading on all localised People initiatives.    


Talent acquisition

  • Oversee localised recruitment and constantly evaluate processes, systems, tools in place and introduce creative approaches to identifying and sourcing exceptional talent. Lead on graduate recruitment initiatives, identifying external opportunities to drive hiring and enhanced advertising methods.  When volume is high, roll your sleeves up and fill vacancies in partnership with the Talent Partner to ensure Contis is well resourced.  
  • Oversee benchmarking, external analysis, market trends that inform and keep us relevant.  
  • Champion diversity and inclusion for the region and Contis as a whole.
  • Lead on succession planning for India, and ensure an effective process exists to support internal recruitment and career progression.


Organisational structure & people development

  • Work with the Head of People and Culture to develop and implement plans, policies, processes, and systems, to facilitate effective people management and organisation effectiveness.  Align regional and global approaches, and share best practise to inform enhancements. 
  • Ensure compliance in all roles having updated and relevant job descriptions in place. 
  • Oversee, and implement locally, the internal framework that evaluates performance and builds a high performing culture.
  • Work with global people team to implement a learning framework that meets training needs and stretches our people to progress their careers with Contis.


Reward & Recognition

  • Oversee and maintain effective compensation and benefits programmes to attract and retain talent across India.
  • Identify compensation trends/shortfalls/opportunities and review market data to ensure programmes are competitive. 
  • Ensure local pay framework is equitable, regularly reviewed, and applied with consistency.
  • Support driving Global internal recognition schemes to ensure their continued importance and maintenance.


Employee relations & compliance

  • Ensure all localised operational HR processes are up to date and in place to support positive, consistent and compliant employee relations.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements for employment in India, reducing risk and ensuring compliance, when advising line managers on ER matters.
  • Oversee and implement sufficient HR policies to protect all parties. 
  • Deliver an in-house ER service for the region that is balanced, yet also commercial in approach.   
  • Own the procurement for and management of local supplier agreements that relate to People matters.


Engagement & Employer Brand

  • Actively communicate with managers/leaders and assess the engagement of workers to keep a pulse on morale and culture, use feedback to identify key themes that inform the development of local and global people programmes.
  • Ideate and contribute to new opportunities that build Contis’ employer brand.
  • Keep ahead of employment trends that increase engagement, and act as ambassador for mental health awareness, driving positive wellbeing and the Contis Values.
  • Initiate and drive recreational activities for the local region, building upon an incredible employee experience for our teams.

Skills & Knowledge Required : 

Essential Skills:

  • 10+ years’ experience as an HR Manager or People Ops Manager in India overseeing the full employee lifecycle, from recruiting, performance management, employee relations, L&D, employee engagement, and reward.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing others and leading teams.
  • Possess professionally recognised qualifications in Human Resource Management
  • Demonstrable experience business partnering leaders and coaching managers to lead their teams and deliver effective people solutions.
  • Proven experience working with modern HR tech, such as HiBob, TeamTailor, HowNow
  • Experience of working in tech-based Companies 
  • Solid knowledge of employment law in India, and demonstrable experience applying this in an employment setting
  • Ability to flex seamlessly between strategic and operational HR, due to agile needs of the business. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to identify and build key HR processes that reduce risk and ensure a regulated business remains compliant.         
  • Ability to ideate creative solutions, interpret regulations rather than just apply them, and propose approaches that balance the benefit of business & employee.         
  • Outstanding communicator, both written and orally, with an excellent command of English.        
  • Access to professional networks that inform and update on current HR matters which will keep the business up to date and relevant.         
  • Self-starting with a considered and structured approach to people matters.         
  • Resilient and pragmatic with solutions, while remaining commercially savvy.         
  • Ethically strong, operating with integrity at all times.       
  • Tech-savvy and able to operate comfortably with Contis’ systems for collaboration 

      Desirable Skills: ·        

  • Experience having worked in the financial services or payments sector
  • Prior experience with integrating Company values into People processes or approaches.         
  • Coaching qualification and demonstrable experience applying this      
  • Experience working within a business unit for a global organisation based outside of Ahmedabad
